Now that the Spring 2011 semester is in full swing, Equal at UCF is making good on its own New Year’s Resolutions.
With a new, energetic Executive Board, Equal is vowing to become an even more active and inclusive organization on campus, starting with its general membership. Equal promises you, the LGBTQ and Allied communities at UCF, to give you more opportunities to get involved, to provide any resources you may need on campus, and to make our organization more welcoming to you. Equal has been and always will be a safe place, but this year, we’re going to make it more than that. When you come to are meetings, we want you to feel like we’re all a part of one family that sticks together and supports each other, no matter what.
In addition, Equal will be doing far more in the community than ever before. We will be working with local LGBT organizations and leaders and make ourselves a “household name” at UCF. Many LGBT students at our school and in our community don’t even know we’re here—this is going to change.
We will be implementing some concrete reforms in order to make sure all of this happens. The website you are reading this on will be updated regularly with meeting times and news stories so you know what is going on with Equal and when, and it will also easily provide you access to any resource you may need, from officer contacts, to counseling to HIV testing. We will soon be implementing a listserv through this website so you can keep updated with everything Equal does on campus. Finally, the Executive Board and the Advisory Board will be making a concerted effort to make sure we are personal and available to all members.
Even more great things will be happening at Equal this semester, and we want you to be a part of remaking Equal so that one of the oldest and largest organizations on campus remains both a force for social change and a haven for students at UCF and a prominent part of the Orlando community. Stay tuned!
