S.A.F.E. Come Home to Parents

This Tuesday, August 31, 2010, Equal's political divsion SAFE (Students Advocating for Equality) brought parents from PFLAG to speak, bringing a Homecoming feel to Equal's second meeting of the semester. Going down the line, hearing parents speak about not knowing, the surprise and the relief of their children coming out of the closet, several members were moved to tears.

Rally Against UCF Police Harassment

Long time gay activist and mixed-race philosopher and poet Jennifer Lisa Vest, who is our colleague in UCF’s philosophy department, was the victim of police misconduct by four white UCF campus police officers on August 9th at 9pm on Alafaya. As far as we understand, she has filed a grievance and complaints with the police department, the ACLU and NAACP. All the investigative processes are still ongoing.

Senate Meeting Thursday, September 2, 2010

Two months ago Dr. Ehasz, the Vice President for Student Development and Enrollment Services, vetoed revisions to the UCF Golden Rule and the SGA Code of Ethics that would have expanded nondiscrimination protection to include gender identity and expression. These measures had passed the Golden Rule Review Committee and the SGA Senate with unanimous support.

Equal announces permanent fall home

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Orlando, FL - Equal has a new permenent home for its meetings this fall. Weekly meetings will now be held every Tuesday night at 8pm in the Health and Public Affairs I Building, Room 112. Plenty of parking is available in Parking Lot D1, which sits adjacent to the HPA buildings.

First Meeting Finds Its Place

Tuesday, August 24, 2010, Equal's first meeting of the semester started off...with a venue change. With the rainfall having putting a halt to the Multi-Cultural Student Center's "Taste of UCF" (formerly out on Memory Mall), Equal's reserved venue of the Cape Florida Ballroom was given to MCSC, leaving Equal officers and students alike with little more to do than stand around confused. Equal Summer Jam Cook Out A Resounding Success

Saturday, August 7, 2010 , Equal hosted its first Equal Summer Jam Cookout at Lake Claire! The board met early to set up for the event, and thankfully someone knew how to grill; if only he didn't live in Arizona. When people started showing up,Gaby broke out a soccer ball and everyone started kicking it around. Once everyone's feet were in serious pain, it was decided that soccer could wait.
